I think discord is the new thing, forums is ancient.
I’d like to see your discord a bit more organized and active by staff.
It’s a hassle to come to forums where as discord is on the tip of my finger. Highly recommend getting more invested on there.. thanks

It’s true - it’s highly unusual to use forums

I like the forums for nostalgic reasons. anytime i load up clients on my pc i open up forums. Also, the market section on here is dope. Highscores and statistics are cool.

All this stuff can be added on discord easily

Hey, I've seen this post a couple of times and it's very overdue a reply.

You're absolutely right to say forums are ancient, they are! But so is this game, hehe.

When I was preparing for the server release, multiple people advised me to get rid of forums and move fully to Discord. Discord is the latest thing for community relations and they're not wrong about that.

For me however, I don't like how Discord pulls you into being present 24/7 and lures you into discussions with people who may not even be playing here - they're just there to get a reaction or share an opinion because they can. The overall environment feels highly toxic and requires more energy than I'd like to put in.

Next issue is Discord as a platform. I've personally been banned from Discord before for "distribution of hacks." When I reached out to the available support channels, I wasn't given any concrete reason - just a few words and that was it. That experience stuck with me. If they did it to me, they can do it to our community space too, and we'd have no recourse.

Forums, on the other hand, we own as a community. If the server is up, the website and forums are up. No one will mess with it, no one will require ID to enter, and no one can take it away from us overnight.

Another reason - I know who each of you are. I know who actually plays, what sort of people you are, what teams or groups you belong to. That context matters when I'm reading feedback or requests, because I can tell if there's any hidden meaning, who's being serious, and who's just stirring the pot. That kind of signal gets completely lost in a fast-moving Discord channel full of randoms.

My preferred way of communication is asynchronous. While running the server I'm managing my other IRL responsibilities, and I'd rather give thoughtful, considered responses to players here on the forums, in DMs, or through support tickets - instead of reactive one-liners in a chat window.

I'll also push back gently on one thing: the market section, highscores, and statistics that Ipk mentioned aren't trivially "added to Discord." They're proper web tools with real UIs, searchable history, and persistent links you can share. Discord embeds and bots are no substitute for that.

Overall, I wasn't 100% sure about my decision to keep the forums at first, but as of now I'm extremely happy with the choice.

Cheers.

I can respect all that, very understandable.

What about having someone else manage discord while you manage this? You guys do have a discord, why not let someone else update it with things that get updated here. That way whoever likes what can use whatever they like.

A community mod, sort of thing for discord. Sharing updates and being somewhat available for pings and questions that can have a better line to kleio and terror if needed.

Agreed, it really spreads much negativity on discord and ingame, which is hurting the server

discord requires more and faster engagement and has its own culture that I would say.. this server seems to be trying to avoid for.. reasons (you can fill in the gaps)

its true we should probably do discord differently and it is too negative, but as someone who checks discord and used to be a forums guy, the forums are a major disappointment so far. if you want the forums and the forum culture, you gotta engage and you know, do the thing. this place is a ghost town compared to what you would expect for this player count

trying to do my part even as im taking a break from the game, but you guys need to do yours and actually use the forums.. or else its going to just be more discord

Why not just optimize both? It doesn’t have to be forums or discord… make it both and let the ppl go whereever they chose
It can’t be hard to do that

Asynchronicity is the key 100 %. On forums you can easily chime in on a specific topic even if you check the forums only once every few days or so. Good luck with a similar approach on Discord, the conversation has flowed to other topics 100 times in that time and it's too late to react if you got something to say. Also a forum type approach should encourage people to put more thought into the posts (although it's not always clear here big_smile).
